Calloway's and Cornelius Nursery Provide Free Gardening Activities for Children this Summer
Calloway's and Cornelius Nursery will host semimonthly educational gardening events at all of its locations for children ages 5-12 throughout the summer.
FORT WORTH, TX, April 10, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Calloway's and Cornelius Nursery will host semimonthly educational gardening events at all of its locations for children ages 5-12 throughout the summer.
The summer series, Callie's Kids, will be held the first and third Wednesday of June, July and August. The activities are meant to teach children the importance of recycling and provide some outdoor gardening fun. Each event will last about an hour; from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the O2 Planting for the Future Station at all Calloway's and Cornelius Nursery locations. This is the second year that the garden center has offered these types of activities during the summer.
In June children will learn about butterflies and participate in tin can tomato planting. Children should bring an empty tin can. All other supplies will be provided so they can decorate the can and plant tomato seeds. In July children will have the opportunity to plant grass seeds in a plastic cup and then decorate the cup. Later in the month they can learn about birds native to Texas and make cardboard binoculars to scope out birds. Children should bring an empty cardboard roll. In August the Callie's Kids Program will focus on trees unique to Texas and summer blooming flowers. Children are encouraged to bring an empty egg carton. All of these learning opportunities are free to the public. Children who participate will learn ways they can help the earth and can take his or her finished craft home.
"Because we experienced such great success with these events last year, we decided to double the number of activities for 2010," Kimberly Bird, Vice President of Retail Marketing said.
