HerbFest 2008 Extends to 10 Days
The 9th Herbfest will feature more craft vendors, greatest array of herbs on East Coast and extended free education seminars for the customers.
/Lawn and Garden News Articles/ - WAKE FOREST, NC, March 20, 2008 - While HerbFest has built a reputation for selling the healthiest and best looking plants anywhere, "we are more than a plant sale, this is a Lifestyle festival, " insists Johnson, co-founder. Classes and lectures during the festival this year will include information on water conservation, mulching, composting, beneficial insects, cooking with herbs and using herbs for health and wellness and will be taught by Mater Gardeners, Herbalists, PhD's and Herb lovers like Johnson. "Another advantage in extending the festival this year is to allow the ability to reorder plants that are in high demand should we run out," notes Elizabeth Johnson, co-producer of the event. A schedule of classes will be listed online at www.herbfest.net
Most herb plants will be sold in special pots made from rice hulls, which are biodegradable and can be discarded to the organic mulch pile.
Each day is begun with the daily "duck parade" which is a favorite of kids and adults alike. The duck pen can be visited throughout the HerbFest as well. On Saturday April 19th, the fabulously popular live remote broadcast of "The Tarheel Gardener Show" with Mike Raley and Ann Clapp is broadcast from HerbFest to over 100,000 listeners from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., followed by live performances of the Franklin Academy Jazz Band, , and other popular local groups such as the Josh Jackson Quintet and West Street Band. Last year over 8500 customers, by physical count, came during the 3-day event. Friday nights feature local jam sessions by The Violin Shop with all the accoutrements of stringed instruments and vocals.
This year the herbs and plants will be featured throughout the festival but the second weekend will feature more entertainment, as the HerbFest becomes a vacation destination in our lovely historic downtown @ Festival Park. Saturday, April 26th features the Bull City Syndicate band performing that evening after the HerbFest closes but on site at Festival Park. Opening for Bull City Syndicate will be the winner of Festival Park's Battle of The Bands, the Jessica Lyndon Ray band.
With any festival there must be good food, and our foods also recognize the use of healthful herbs as a main flavoring agent. The VFW Post 8466 cooking will waft over the fresh aromas of Italian Sausages, Polish dogs with sauerkraut during HerbFest as well as other specialty food vendors. Craft booths will feature the use of herbs, everlastings, and essential oils to make herbal crafts such as scented soaps, bath waters, natural cosmetics, wreaths, potpourris, and culinary blends.
It's fun for all, young and old, vendor and customer. Bring your lawn chairs for the wonderful outside entertainment or just sit and enjoy our newly planted gardens and people watch while enjoying the food and entertainment.
Live entertainment!
